Calgary Community Leadership Crash Course

Are you a leader in your local pro-life organization? Would you like to have pro-life outreach happening in your community? Do you want to learn strategies on how to recruit volunteers, energize current members, and take your group’s impact to the next level? Do you want to gain invaluable experience changing minds and saving lives through proven pro-life outreach projects? Do you want to network with other community leaders to learn from each other’s experiences? If you have answered, “YES!” to any or all of these questions, then CCBR’s Second Annual Community Leadership Crash Course is for you!

At CCBR, we know how important it is that the Pro-life Movement reach as many Canadians as possible with the pro-life message. Having active pro-life groups in communities is vital to ending the killing of pre-born boys and girls in Canada. These children, along with their mothers and fathers, need your group, and our Community Leadership Crash Course aims to support you in your steps towards better protecting these vulnerable children. Our three-day course will prepare you with the fundamentals to lead outreach in your community, with topics including (but not limited to!):

  • Two streams of apologetics: “Pro-life apologetics 101: Fundamental conversation skills” OR “Pro-life apologetics 201: Developing 1-on-1 training for volunteers”

  • Leadership essentials and how to convey your goals and vision to individuals and groups alike

  • How to recruit, retain, and develop your volunteers into confident leaders

  • How to professionally share your vision and secure financial partnership from pro-life supporters

  • Understanding your legal rights, and how to navigate encounters with media and law enforcement officers

The Community Leadership Crash Course will also provide real activism experience on the front lines of the pro-life movement. You will join CCBR staff, summer interns, and volunteers on the streets of Calgary, exposing the truth of abortion through both “Choice” Chain displays and door-knocking.

At this Crash Course, you will have opportunity to learn from our staff members:

Meagan Vande Bruinhorst

Western Community Outreach Coordinator

Oriyana Hrycyshyn

Eastern Community Outreach Coordinator

Cameron Côté

Western Outreach Director and Legal Liaison

Rachel Dalcin

Calgary Volunteer Coordinator

Yvonne Boon

Fundraising Director

We will also be hosting guest speakers:

  • Carol Crosson, from Crosson Law

  • Stephanie Fennelly, Executive Director for The Wilberforce Project

  • Alissa Golob, co-founder of RightNow

  • Kianna Owen, former staff at The Back Porch

Here’s what one past attendee said about how the Crash Course impacted her:

The Crash Course week was super awesome. When we watched one of the movies on social reform I was struck by the example of the people in history and realized no matter what pain we have to go through, we have to persevere for the cause. The whole week re-energized me and re-fueled me; it made me think I can still do this—that I have to do this, that I’m called to do this. I returned to my office convicted not to quit. I stayed on and got a lot of things set up—we got so many new monthly donors thanks to the fund-raising strategies CCBR taught me, and we were able to hire another staffer because of what I learned at the Crash Course. Going was definitely worth it!
